Climate Action & Environmental Sustainability
Climate change is one of the most urgent challenges of our time, and its impact is being felt strongly in rural India—affecting agriculture, water resources, and the overall livelihood of communities. Recognizing this, Gramin Vikas Sansthan (GVS) has integrated climate action and environmental awareness as a core part of its work.
Tree Plantation for a Greener Future
GVS regularly organizes mass tree plantation drives in villages, schools, and community spaces. These drives are not just about planting trees, but about building awareness of their importance for clean air, soil fertility, biodiversity, and reducing the impact of climate change.
- Last year alone, GVS successfully planted more than 7,000 trees across Ghazipur and Mau districts with active community participation.
- Community members, adolescent girls, and youth volunteers actively participate in plantation campaigns.
- Villagers are motivated to adopt trees as "green guardians" to ensure survival and growth.
Promotion of Organic & Sustainable Farming
Unsustainable agricultural practices and excessive use of chemicals harm both the environment and human health. To counter this, GVS promotes Jaivik Kheti (organic farming) as a sustainable livelihood option.
- So far, over 200 farmers have been mobilized and trained to adopt organic farming practices.
- Training sessions are conducted on composting, natural fertilizers, and bio-pesticides.
- Women farmers are encouraged to adopt organic methods, ensuring both health and income security.
- Awareness is created around water conservation, soil health, and climate-resilient crops.
Climate Change Awareness & Community Engagement
GVS believes that community awareness is the first step towards climate action.
- Workshops, rallies, and campaigns are organized to educate rural communities—especially adolescents and women—about climate change, its risks, and local solutions.
- Special focus is given to building eco-friendly habits like waste reduction, water harvesting, and renewable energy use.
- Partnerships are built with schools and local institutions to make climate education part of everyday learning.
